The George Floyd Tragedy Calls for Systems Re-Design
The Minnesota Design Center at the University of Minnesota wishes to express our condolences to the family, friends, and community of George Floyd and is committed to support systemic change toward a more just world. While the George Floyd murder was a failure of humanity, empathy, and integrity on the part of the individuals involved, it also represented a failure of the system. Our center denounces the excessive use of police force against communities of color in our city, Minneapolis, and in cities across the U.S. As designers, we are often partners in systems re-design, and the Minnesota Design Center stands ready to offer our assistance to those working for systemic change.
A More Equitable and Sustainable Post-Pandemic World

The Minnesota Design Center is launching an initiative in fall 2020, focused on achieving "A More Equitable and Sustainable Post-Pandemic World." With funding from the McKnight Foundation, the MDC will host a series of remote, community based, design workshops that will explore the unequal, disproportionate, and disruptive effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and focus on the likely long-term impacts on people's lives, on the regional economy, and on the built environment.

Post Pandemic Podcasts

Post-Pandemic World is a podcast, sponsored by the Minnesota Design Center, that looks at how the COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated changes already underway before the global crisis began, how those changes will likely affect our lives from now on, and how we can use the crisis to construct a more humane, equitable, and sustainable future for ourselves.
